Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire revealed at a company event in Seoul on April 14, 2026 that the USDC issuer is actively exploring a native token for Arc Network, its stablecoin-focused layer-1 blockchain. Allaire told financial partners and developers that the token would “help provide mechanisms for governance, incentives, economic alignment, and to ultimately move it into a proof-of-stake system over time.”
Arc is designed as what Circle calls an “economic operating system” for financial applications, offering deterministic transaction finality, USDC-denominated gas fees, and compliant privacy features suited to institutional workflows. The network’s public testnet launched in October 2025, and has attracted more than 100 institutional participants, including BlackRock, Visa, Goldman Sachs, and Amazon Web Services. Allaire confirmed a mainnet beta is still scheduled for sometime in 2026, though a specific date has not been set.

The Arc token, still in an exploratory phase, is expected to serve as a governance and coordination tool a cross applications, validators, and infrastructure partners. A transition to proof-of-stake would allow validators to stake the token to help secure the network, replacing Arc’s current architecture with a model more common among major layer-1 blockchains.
Allaire framed the token as potentially Circle’s most consequential platform move since the creation of USDC. Circle (CRCL) shares rose approximately 10% on the day of the announcement. More specific token details are expected to be shared ahead of the mainnet launch.
